all those that make hives - before you paint the outside, do you apply oil? if yes, is oil applied only on the outside or also on the inside? what kind of oil do you use? any edible oil would do?

I just started beekeeping, so have just one hive in use. I painted that without oil. My intention, in future hives, is to coat the exterior with raw linseed oil and to not paint.

I have used a mix of raw linseed oil and bees wax on the exterior of the hives. Looks great and seems to protect them nicely. The bees wax fills any cracks or holes around the joints.

How much bee wax you use for a litre of raw linseed oil?
